About the Tour
Your tour of Reykjavík begins with convenient and swift pickup service from various designated locations across the capital region, ensuring minimal delay before we embark on exploring the wonders of the Golden Circle.
Kerið Volcanic Crater: Estimated to be approximately 6500 years old, the Kerið volcanic crater is a breathtaking natural marvel. With a diameter of 170 meters and a depth of 55 meters, it features a stunning aquamarine blue lake at its base. Visitors can admire this geological wonder from the rim or descend via a wooden staircase for a closer look. An entrance fee, included in your tour price, supports the site’s conservation efforts.
Friðheimar Greenhouse and Horse Farm: At Friðheimar farm, renowned for its greenhouse and horse stables, you’ll first visit the famous stables to meet Iceland’s distinctive breed of horses. These horses are celebrated for their compact size, strength, and unique gaits. Learn about Iceland’s innovative use of geothermal energy in horticulture as you tour the greenhouse, where tomatoes thrive under powerful sun lamps. Sample these tomatoes and enjoy a leisurely lunch at a reserved table (lunch not included in tour price).
Gullfoss Waterfall: Known as the Golden Falls, Gullfoss is among Iceland’s most awe-inspiring waterfalls. Fed by the glacier river Hvítá, its flow varies dramatically with the seasons, ranging from 80 to 140 cubic meters per second. The spray from the waterfall can be felt from a considerable distance, adding to the spectacle of nature’s power.
Geysir Geothermal Area: The Geysir geothermal area in Haukadalur valley is home to the original geyser from which the English word derives. Although Geysir is dormant, its counterpart Strokkur erupts reliably every 5 to 10 minutes, shooting boiling water and steam up to 20 meters high. Explore the area’s hot springs, steam vents, and walking paths for a glimpse into Iceland’s volcanic activity.
Thingvellir National Park: Our final stop is Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site of both geological and historical significance. Situated in a rift valley between the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates, it showcases the visible effects of continental drift. Almannagjá canyon allows visitors to walk between the two plates, experiencing firsthand the geological forces shaping Iceland’s landscape. Thingvellir also holds historical importance as the site of Iceland’s ancient Althingi parliament, the world’s oldest ongoing parliament from 930 AD until 1798.
Return to Reykjavík: After exploring Thingvellir, we conclude our journey by returning to Reykjavík, where you’ll be dropped off at your designated hotel or bus stop.
