Iceland boasts its unique charm throughout the year, offering something special in every season. Here’s what you can expect as extra delights during each season of this tour:

From September to April, you may witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights illuminating the night sky. During this time, from October to April, we swap the glacier hike for an exhilarating adventure inside the Crystal Ice Cave.

In the summer months, bask in the enchanting glow of the Arctic midnight sun, while also keeping an eye out for charming puffins along the coastline. As we journey through the East, there’s a chance to encounter reindeer, adding an extra touch of magic to your experience. In September, we might even have the opportunity to join a traditional sheep round-up in the countryside, offering a glimpse into the authentic farming life of Iceland

Day 1 – Golden Circle and South Coast

Please ensure you’re ready at your designated pick-up spot in Reykjavík by 8:00 am. The pick-up process typically takes around 30 minutes, so please be patient, depending on your location within Reykjavík. Our first day is dedicated to exploring the renowned Golden Circle attractions.

Our journey begins at Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site celebrated for its geological and historical importance. This is where the ancient Icelandic Parliament, Alþingið, was established in 930 CE, boasting one of the world’s earliest democratic assemblies. Here, you’ll marvel at the dramatic Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates slowly drift apart, forming a majestic rift valley.

Next, we head to the Geysir hot spring area, home to the famous Strokkur geyser, known for its spectacular eruptions of hot water and steam every few minutes. Take in the bubbling fumaroles and witness the mesmerizing beauty of nature’s forces in action.

Our final stop on the Golden Circle tour is the majestic Gullfoss waterfall, where the Hvítá River cascades down from the Langjökull glacier, creating a breathtaking sight as it plunges into a rugged canyon.

En route to our accommodation at a charming country hotel near Kirkjubæjarklaustur, we’ll visit the captivating Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss waterfalls. Seljalandsfoss offers a unique experience, allowing visitors to walk behind the cascading water, providing a one-of-a-kind perspective.

Before concluding our day, we’ll explore the atmospheric Reynisfjara black sand beach, renowned for its striking Reynisdrangar peaks and fascinating basalt column cave.

Your overnight stay will be at a cozy hotel near the picturesque town of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, offering an ideal setting for potential Northern Lights sightings during the months of September to April, weather permitting.

Day 2 – Vík – Skaftafell – Glacier Lagoon

We’ll journey past the imposing Mýrdalsjökull glacier, home to the notorious Katla volcano lurking beneath its icy surface. If visibility permits, you might catch a glimpse of this formidable volcano, known for its unpredictable nature. As we traverse the Eldhraun lava field en route to Skaftafell in Vatnajökull National Park, you’ll witness the aftermath of past volcanic eruptions. Skaftafell is a lush oasis, adorned with verdant birch forests and vibrant vegetation, a striking contrast against the rugged black sand desert.

Our adventure continues with a thrilling three-hour glacier hike led by our expert glacier guide, exploring an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, Europe’s largest glacier. From October to April, we trade the glacier hike for a magical journey through the Crystal Ice Cave, offering a unique experience amidst the glacial landscape.

Next, we’ll visit the iconic Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where you’ll marvel at the enchanting sight of icebergs adrift in the shimmering lagoon waters. Don’t miss the renowned Diamond Beach, where coal-black sands are adorned with sparkling crystal icebergs washed ashore, creating a scene straight out of a movie. Indeed, this picturesque location has served as a backdrop for various film scenes, including those of James Bond movies.

In the evening, we’ll retire to comfortable accommodations in the Southeast area, providing an ideal setting for potential Northern Lights sightings from September through April.

Day 3 – East Fjords – Djúpivogur – Wilderness Center

Our adventure leads us to the captivating East Fjords of Iceland. We’ll navigate along scenic coastal roads, winding our way past Hvalnes, a breathtaking and secluded peninsula, and through the captivating landscape of the Þvottárskriður landslides between Lóns and Álftafjarðar.

Our first stop is Djúpivogur, a quaint fishing village boasting the remarkable outdoor sculpture known as Eggin í Gleðivík, or “The Eggs of Merry Bay.” Here, you’ll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the charm of this traditional Icelandic community.

Later, we’ll venture to the Wilderness Center, a living history center nestled between Europe’s largest glacier, Vatnajökull, and Lake Lagarfljót. This unique destination offers a plethora of activities, including hiking, biking, and horse riding, as well as comfortable accommodations, captivating exhibitions, and a delightful restaurant and spa. Stroll along a 3-kilometer trail showcasing life in the untamed highlands and explore the museum’s exhibitions, all complimentary during your stay.

Upon arrival, you’ll cross an enchanting old wooden bridge, stepping back in time as you embark on a journey through history. Your accommodation will be housed in historic buildings, where you’ll savor delicious meals crafted from fresh, local ingredients in an open kitchen.

After a day of exploration, unwind in the soothing hot spring spa, reminiscent of the bathing traditions of the Vikings. The bathhouse boasts an authentic design, featuring a traditional hot spring crafted from stones, evoking a sense of ancient times.

Day 4 – Stuðlagil Canyon – Mývatn – Goðafoss – Akureyri

Setting our sights on the northern reaches of the country, we embark on a journey from Egilsstaðir to witness the awe-inspiring beauty of Stuðlagil Canyon, renowned for its captivating basalt rock formations. As we traverse through the wilderness, we’re in for a treat of natural wonders.

Our adventure continues as we delve into the mystical landscapes surrounding Lake Mývatn, a designated nature reserve adorned with lava fields and volcanic craters. For those seeking relaxation, an optional extra awaits at the Myvatn Nature Baths, where you can indulge in the warm geothermal waters drawn from depths of up to 2,500 meters. Let the mineral-rich waters soothe your body and rejuvenate your spirit.

The surreal journey continues as we venture into the steamy lunar landscapes of the Námaskarð geothermal area, where boiling hot springs, steaming fumaroles, and vibrant bubbling mud pots await our exploration. Our next destination brings us to the incredible Dimmuborgir formations, aptly named the Dark Castles, adding another layer of wonder to our adventure.

Before the day comes to a close, we make a stop at the magnificent Goðafoss waterfall, a vast and dreamy crescent-shaped marvel. Finally, we journey to Eyjafjörður, a breathtaking fjord framed by towering mountains.

Our overnight stay awaits at a charming country hotel in Akureyri, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the picturesque fishing town in the north. For those visiting between September and April, keep an eye out for the mesmerizing Northern Lights dancing across the night sky.

Day 5 – Whale watching in Dalvík – Siglufjörður -Tröllaskagi – Laugarbakki

At times, we have the opportunity to take a brief pause in Akureyri, affectionately known as the Capital of the North. As we drive through this quaint town, we’re treated to mesmerizing views along Eyjafjörður (the Island Fjord) en route to the charming fishing village of Dalvík.

Our whale-watching adventure begins from the bustling working harbor, where we board the boat for a thrilling 3-hour excursion. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of humpback whales, white-beaked dolphins, minke whales, and if luck is on our side, perhaps even a majestic blue whale gracing the bay with its presence.

After our maritime escapade, we make our way to Siglufjörður, a picturesque fishing village steeped in history. Once hailed as the herring fishing capital of the Atlantic in the early 20th century, it exudes a nostalgic charm that reflects its rich past. As we journey around Tröllaskagi (the Troll Peninsula), we’re treated to some of Iceland’s most breathtaking ocean scenery and renowned skiing areas. The quaint villages dotting this peninsula offer a glimpse into the traditional Icelandic way of life.

Our scenic drive continues through thriving agricultural landscapes as we head towards Laugarbakki. Here, we’ll settle in for the night at a cozy small hotel, offering a comfortable retreat amidst the Icelandic wilderness.

During the winter evenings, don’t miss the chance to venture out from the hotel and witness the mesmerizing Northern Lights, illuminating the sky with vibrant shades of green, purple, and blue (September-April).

Day 6 – Borgarfjörður – Reykholt – Hraunfossar – Hvalfjörður – Reykjavík

On this day, we’ll explore West Iceland, an area renowned by Lonely Planet as one of the best destinations. Begin with a short hike up to Grábrók, a volcano crater offering fabulous views over the lava field and surrounding area. Borgarfjörður boasts numerous splendid sights, which we’ll focus on today. Stops include the Deildartunguhver hot spring, the legendary Barnafoss waterfall (also known as the Children’s Waterfall), and the Hraunfossar cascade, where water emerges straight out of the lava field.

Our next destination is the historic and picturesque site of Reykholt, once home to Snorri Sturluson, the Icelandic historian, lawyer, politician, poet, and author of several Icelandic Sagas. Explore Snorralaug, Snorri’s pool, and experience the water temperature in the place where Snorri likely bathed.
