About the Tour
Prepare for an unforgettable adventure along Iceland’s South Coast, where we’ll explore some of the most iconic sights in this land of contrasts. Our journey begins with a scenic drive through picturesque farmlands and charming towns, leading us to the breathtaking Seljalandsfoss waterfall. If weather permits, you’ll have the unique opportunity to walk behind the cascading water, experiencing its beauty up close.
Next, we’ll marvel at the powerful Skogafoss waterfall, reachable after a climb of around 500 steps, offering stunning views from both above and below. Our exploration continues to Reynisfjara, a world-renowned black sand beach adorned with striking basalt sea stacks, a testament to Iceland’s volcanic origins. We’ll recharge with a delicious lunch in Vik, enjoying the view of its quaint church perched atop a hill.
As we journey onward through enchanting moss-covered lava fields, we’ll arrive at Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a village steeped in folklore and mystery. Our accommodation for the night will be in the scenic surroundings of Skaftafell. And if the weather cooperates, our guide will lead us to potential Northern Lights viewing spots, offering a chance to witness this mesmerizing natural phenomenon. Though sightings can’t be guaranteed, we remain hopeful for a magical display illuminating the night sky.
VATNAJÖKULL NATIONAL PARK, JOKULSARLON & DIAMOND BEACH
Next up on our itinerary is a visit to Vatnajökull National Park, the largest of its kind in Europe. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll make our way to Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, a truly surreal sight that never fails to astonish. Here, massive icebergs float gracefully in the vast lagoon, gradually drifting towards the open sea. Keep your camera ready for the iconic Diamond Beach, where blue icebergs glisten like precious jewels against the dark volcanic sand.
The highlight of our journey awaits as we step into the enchanting blueish Crystal Ice Cave (or Katla Ice Cave in summer), guided by our expert glacier guide. Marvel at the breathtaking ice formations while learning fascinating facts about how these caves are formed.
As we head back to Reykjavik, we’ll keep a lookout for the Northern Lights, making a brief stop if conditions permit. While our arrival in Reykjavík is anticipated around 9:00 p.m., winter weather can sometimes cause slight schedule adjustments. But fear not! Our seasoned travel planners always have a backup plan, ensuring your Iceland adventure remains thrilling and unforgettable.
Day 1 – The Grand South Coast & Northern Lights
Our tour begins with pick-up at 9:00 am from your hotel or the designated meeting point in Reykjavík. Please be ready and waiting at this time, as the pick-up process may take up to 30 minutes.
Embark on a magical journey as we head south before veering eastward for two days of unforgettable adventure. With the sun slowly rising, we make our way to our first stop: the unique Seljalandsfoss waterfall. Here, you can walk behind the cascading water, offering a thrilling experience that’s definitely worth getting a little wet for!
Our next stop brings us to another stunning waterfall, Skógafoss, nestled at the base of the renowned Eyjafjallajökull volcano. On clear days, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of yet another majestic volcano, Mýrdalsjokull glacier. Continuing our journey, we arrive at Reynisfjara, a captivating black beach adorned with striking basalt columns and the iconic Reynisdrangar peaks. Passing through the quaint town of Vík, we make our way to our overnight accommodation. Throughout the day, prepare to be mesmerized by the breathtaking landscapes featuring expansive lava fields, cascading waterfalls, ebony sands, and glacier tongues. As evening descends, we may have the opportunity to chase the elusive Northern Lights, especially in the serene countryside near Vatnajökull glacier, far from the glare of city lights. Your accommodation for the night will be in Hof, where you can unwind and soak in the beauty of Iceland’s wilderness.

Day 2: LAND OF ICE
Next, you go into the glacier with a qualified guide! We’ll visit the fascinating Crystal Ice Cave during the winter season or the Katla Ice Cave during the summer season. New caves are formed each winter by the melt/freeze cycle of the glacier, they are always changing, both from year to year and within each winter. The journey into an ice cave will give photographers the most amazing opportunity to capture the shimmering blue light that passes through the glacial ice. Surprisingly deep shades of jewel blue will surround you, these tones are caused by ice compression, the way we perceive light and color, and the blueness can sometimes be intensified by algae.
After visiting the ice cave we head towards Reykjavík. We will keep an eye out for the Northern Lights on our way back to the city and will make a short stop if conditions allow for it.
We return to Reykjavík around 21:00 pm.
